You should become familiar with the location of the furnace switch which is generally located in close proximity to the furnace. This switch controls the flow of electricity into the furnace and should always be left in the ON position.

Heating equipment should be maintained according to the manufacturer’s specifications on a regular basis to ensure maximum efficiency. It is recommended that the furnace be cleaned on a yearly basis. Your gas provider or any heating service contractor is able to offer maintenance.

In addition, the following should be completed on a regular basis:

  1. The furnace filter should be cleaned regularly. This can be done with your home vacuum; however, from time to time you will find that the furnace filter will need to be replaced. By cleaning / replacing the furnace filter on a regular basis, the furnace will operate more efficiently.
  2. Vacuum inside heat registers to prevent any blockage of air. To ensure adequate air circulation, heat registers and cold air returns should be kept free of obstructions such as carpeting, furniture, etc. The airflow into rooms can be controlled by adjusting either the heat register or the air control flap inside the ductwork itself (this is called “balancing”). You as a Homeowner are responsible for the balancing of the system to suit your lifestyle.
  3. Your furnace fan + HRV/ERV should be left on at all the times.

Smart Home Package w/ Heat System (only if applicable)

  • Lennox M30 Wi-fi enabled thermostat will be set up as follows:
    • Heat Pump - will provide all heating and cooling requirements as a STD, until the balance point criteria are met. Your primary power source for heating will be hydro rather than gas while using the heat pump.
    • Balance Point – once the exterior temperature drops to below 5 degrees Celsius, the furnace auxiliary heat will take over heating requirements for the house. Heat pump will become inactive until the exterior temperature rises above 5 degrees Celsius again.
      • The balance point can be changed by our heating company if requested after closing or if the homeowner wants to use the Heat Pump strictly for cooling only.
    • Default Mode - thermostat will be set to heat/cool mode to automatically change between heating and cooling your home to the indoor temperature set.
    • iComfort App - can be synced with thermostat so all climate controls can be used/operated remotely. Thermostat must be registered on the app and be connected to home Wi-fi.
    • Thermostat Smart Scheduling/Modes - designed to accommodate multiple heating and cooling schedules/modes, to ensure your house is preset to the indoor temperature you require throughout the year.
      • Schedules/Modes are summer, winter, spring/fall and save energy.
  • ERV has an independent control remote but will be interconnected with the forced air distribution system of your furnace such that switching on the ERV operates the forced air system, according to Energy Star Guidelines.
    • Ensure ERV is turned on to help with preconditioning the incoming air as it will transfer heat or coolness from outgoing indoor air to incoming outdoor air.
    • Running the ERV will help control humidity levels, clean indoor air, and save money on utilities.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE WARRANTY ON THE HEATING SYSTEM MAY BE VOIDED SHOULD A CONTRACTOR OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL INSTALLER MAKE MODIFICATIONS OR ADDITIONS TO THE SYSTEM.
